United Nations International Day of Peace September 17, 2026 In 2001, the UN General Assembly officially proclaimed an “International Day of Peace” to encourage strengthening the ideals of peace and alleviating tensions and causes of conflict around the world. To quote the resolution, this day is a moment for reflection and action “considering the unique opportunity it offers for a cessation of violence and conflict throughout the world, and the related importance of achieving the broadest possible awareness and observance of the International Day of Peace among the global community.” The Boulder community joins this global effort, with organizations like the Boulder Rotary Club who have invested in permanent peace markers on the landscape, such as the Infinite Walk of Peace just outside of this building. We uplift the ongoing action of Rotary's Boulder Builds Peace Initiative and celebrate the International Day of Peace on September 21. This year’s theme is “Peace is Possible” featuring local events such as the Peace Faire. Therefore we, the City Council of Boulder recognize September 21, 2026 as United Nations International Day of Peace, encouraging everyone in the community to participate in action that reinforces non-violent solutions to humanity’s most profound international challenges.
