Declaration Honoring Mark Wallach and His Service on the Boulder City Council September 3, 2026 Mark Wallach was elected to the Boulder City Council in 2019. During his seven years on council, Mark has been a thoughtful leader and passionate advocate for citywide issues including public safety, affordable housing, and open space. Mark spent years as a real estate developer in New York City promoting adaptive reuse projects. He worked on voter registration, opposition to the Vietnam War, and supported Charles Evers, brother of Medgar Evars, in his campaign to be the first African American man since Reconstruction to run for a statewide office in Mississippi. Mark fell in love with Boulder while searching for great rock climbing. This drew him to advocacy for open space and his entry into Boulder politics. On council, Mark championed climate resilience, housing affordability and the city’s financial health. In addition to his work on the council body, Mark was Mayor Pro Tem, represented Boulder at the National League of Cities and served on local nonprofit boards. We, his council colleagues, appreciate how Mark treated process as moral duty, his mastery of the unglamorous work of thoroughly reading packets and picking up on procedural nuance, and his mentorship on principled governance. We, the City Council of the City of Boulder, Colorado, recognize, honor and appreciate the contributions to the city by former council member, Mark Wallach.
