International Holocaust Remembrance Day January 27, 2026 The Holocaust was the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by Nazi Germany and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945. Jews were the primary victims - six million Jews were murdered; Roma, people with disabilities, and Poles were also targeted for racial, ethnic, or national reasons. Millions more, including queer people, Jehovah's Witnesses, Soviet prisoners of war, and political dissidents, also suffered grievous oppression and death under Nazi tyranny. International Holocaust Remembrance Day is held on January 27 of each year, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. It is a day for the world to pause and remember the millions of people who were murdered or whose lives were forever changed. The City of Boulder joins with all those whose lives were affected by the Holocaust. We remember their strength, courage, and bravery, and will continuously work to make sure their stories are remembered. While this period of dark history is over, antisemitism still plagues our society, fueling the same hatred and violence that charged World War II. As a city we condemn antisemitism, hatred and bigotry in all its forms. We pledge to call out this prejudice in solidarity with our fellow Jewish community members. Such intolerance jeopardizes the wellbeing of us all. We, the City Council of the City of Boulder, Colorado declare January 27, 2026, as
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
