Significant Incidents

Multiple High Value Financial Crimes The Boulder Police Department is regularly involved in solving financial crimes and returning stolen currency. In 2025-2026 this has included cases like: The investigation and trial associated with the defrauding of over one million dollars from the Downtown Merchant’s Association. Coordinating with federal partners to return tens of thousands of dollars to victims after a series of mailbox thefts across the city. Investigating a case associated with multiple victims defrauded by a Boulder business. The case is being worked in coordination with the State of Colorado Attorney General’s Office.

Stabbing on Pearl St. Mall – Jun. 2026 Officers arrived to the Pearl St. Mall after receiving calls about a suspect with a knife attacking individuals. 2 minutes and 13 seconds from when dispatchers answered the phone to when the first officer arrived on scene and began detaining the suspect. The suspect remains in custody on: • 3 counts of Attempted Murder • Assault 1st Degree with a weapon • Menacing with a real or represented weapon

Assault on At-Risk Unhoused Woman – Aug. 2026

An early morning call alerted officers to an inprogress confrontation between two individuals sleeping outside. This call resulted in a felony arrest. The suspect lashed out after believing himself to be the victim of a crime. Alcohol was a contributing factor to the situation. The suspect remains in custody on: • Assault 1st Degree causing Serious Bodily Injury, • Assault 1st Degree against At-Risk Adult

Pattern of Commercial Burglary – March 2026 Boulder Police Department identified a burglary pattern among downtown commercial burglaries. Multiple businesses reported forced entry, unnecessary damage caused, and theft of jewelry, electronics, alcohol, and cash (or cash drawers). Three juvenile suspects were arrested in connection with these four burglaries. Suspects are no longer in custody, but charged with: • 4 counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree, • 2 counts of Criminal Mischief $1000 - <$2000, • Criminal Mischief $5000 - <$20k, • Theft $5000 - <$20k, • Theft >$300 - <$1000

Attempted Homicide of BPD Officer – Feb. 2026 Officers responded to a weapons call at an apartment that involved a suspect threatening other residents. The suspect attacked the first officer on scene, knocking the officer unconscious. The suspect was taken into custody without injury after the successful deployment of a Taser. The involved officer is still on injury leave. The suspect remains in custody on these charges: • • • • • • • •

2 counts of Attempt to Commit Murder in the 1st Degree 2 counts of Crime of Violence 3 counts of Assault in the 2nd Degree Assault in the 1st Degree Menacing with a real or represented weapon Harassment Obstructing a Peace Officer Resisting Arrest 13

Fatal Overdose – Mar. 2026 A fentanyl drug overdose occurred in North Boulder outside of a business. Despite life saving measures, the individual died. After an investigation with other law enforcement partners, the drug dealer was identified, arrested, and charged with supplying the drugs that killed the victim. The suspect remains in custody on: • 4 counts of Distribution/Manufacture/Sale of Drugs • Drug Distribution resulting in death, • Unlawful Possession of Heroin/Fentanyl • Special Drug Offender • Obstructing a Peace Officer 14
