Arbor Day April 17, 2026 In 1872, the Nebraska Board of Agriculture established a special day to be set aside for the planting of trees. This holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska, and Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world. Trees can be a solution to combating climate change by moderating the temperature, cutting heating and cooling costs, reducing the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cleaning the air, producing oxygen, and providing habitat for wildlife. Trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, and countless other wood products. Trees in our city increase property values, improve our physical and mental health, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community. Trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal. Boulder has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for 42 consecutive years and desires to continue its commitment to community forestry. We, the City Council of the City of Boulder, Colorado, declare April 17, 2026
ARBOR DAY and urge all community members to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to sustain our trees. Further, all community members are urged to plant and grow trees to brighten the spirit and promote the well-being of this and future generations.
