The board approved the renewal of the Summit Charter School contract. Director Unger said the district should get charter contracts to the board earlier before expiration, and noted Summit's legacy admissions policy could put its federal facilities funding at risk if not phased out sooner.

Anderson said the contract requires an accountability committee consistent with board policy and state law even if waiver language differs, and committed to following up with Horizons. Medler separately raised concern that BVSD is finalizing charter contracts after they have already expired.

Medler questioned the Horizons K8 charter renewal's waiver of district and school accountability committee rules, saying the replacement plan does not adequately preserve parent input, and asked Superintendent Anderson to follow up with the school.

“I don't really see a great replacement of the parental part of that school improvement discussion”

Alex Medler asked to discuss a CASBA delegate assembly resolution on charter school authorizing best practices, proposing a friendly amendment, and said he would forward material to Lalenia Quinlan Aweida before the vote.
