World AIDS Day December 1, 2025 Started in 1988 and recognized annually on December 1st, World AIDS Day is a global event to remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS and to honor and support those living with and affected by HIV. In the 1980s, those living with HIV had to fight just to be treated with dignity and compassion. Since the first cases of AIDS were reported, tens of millions of vibrant people have lost their lives to this deadly virus. Too many communities, particularly queer men, Black/African Americans, and the Hispanic/Latino community, remain disproportionately impacted. Over the last three decades, there have been many advancements in drug treatments for HIV/AIDS that have reduced the transmission of HIV. Due to treatments such as PrEP, PEP, and Treatment as Prevention, people living with HIV who start these therapies early in the course of infection can now expect a near-normal lifespan, transforming it for many into a manageable chronic condition. We recognize the essential role of the networks of individuals living with and affected by HIV, community health workers, health care providers, community organizations, and the advocates who continue to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The city invests in community-based organizations serving the unique needs of community members who are HIV positive as part of our health equity framework to reduce disease and other health impacts among people experiencing disparities and in alignment with our human services goals to enable all Boulder residents to thrive. We, the City Council of the City of Boulder, Colorado declare December 1, 2025, as
World AIDS Day
